Thanks for stopping by, Jacquelyn! I'm so happy you can relate. There is a powerful perspective shift that can happen through the 'reframing' you're referring to here. Relief is on the way!

Hi Lydia,
Great concepts and article....and yes, I definitely suffer from 'technostress.' I'm reminded of my 96 year old highly sensitive aunt who was sad because she could no longer find film for her "polaroid camera." :-) I often feel under pressure to 'keep up' with technology ...and could relate with much of what you shared about your level of acceptance of technological innovation: no smart phone, cell phone only for traveling; growing some of my own food; don't text; work at home; spend much time in nature. I do use technology to keep in touch with HSPs around the world who are interested in the HSP Gathering Retreats. For that, I am grateful. I'll be working on 'reframing' my own tendency to compare my use of technology with others ... thus relieving my technostress. Thanks Lydia ...

Agreed, Claudia. I see these generational and economic factors as fitting within the realm of what I'm calling interpersonal inequity. Thanks for bringing these to the fore. I'm looking forward to fleshing out more about how these relate to technostress on an individual level, and moreover how we can each be more healthy in our relationship with technology. How we perceive this gap you're pointing out is an important piece!

Lydia: It seems to me that there is also a generational issue at hand- what the young (and well educated) people in their teens and twenties have grown up with is so far beyond our ken that we might as well be in different universes. This is exponentially true in terms of the great divide between the 'haves' and 'have nots' in the world economies. Bridging those gaps, be they generational or economic seems to be beyond hope.

oooo! great inquiry, Molly! On a related note, I'm wondering: Does the opposite, i.e., technological avoidance or limiting one's relationship with technology, make the stress more blatant? I'm just beginning to develop a deeper awareness of my own tendencies toward or away from technology and the technostress that results (or not). Your inquiry has helped me to see that techno habituation is a key point to discuss further as I write more about this topic.
Thanks for sharing this important piece!

I didn't realize that technostress was actually a word, though it stands to reason that it would be.

Technology is so embedded in my life and business--and I generally enjoy it so much--that I suspect I minimize technostress. I assume I can do whatever I want and need to do, which is great, but it also means that I pressure myself when it might be more appropriate to delegate the work or find an easier way.

Now I'm curious about the relationship between technostress and techno habituation. How does immersion in technology make the stress less apparent and therefore more insidious?

Lydia,
Thank you for your support! And I am so glad to hear the Writer's Circle has had a similar impact on you! I never thought of it this way- but that is EXACTLY what this experience has shown me- allowing myself to BE creative, by CREATING, is the best form of self-care! If you think of it this way also, there is no room for perfectionism to sneak in...after all, you are just doing what feeds your soul. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

Hello dear Lydia... What a fantastic message ... thank you.
I've always disliked the now popular statement: "It is what it is." Nicole Kidman's come back to that statement in her role in the movie Australia was "Just because that's the way it is, doesn't mean that's the way it should be." And now we have the women's basketball coach in Tennessee who was recently diagnosed with early stage Alzhiemers who said: "It is what it is...but what it will become is up to me."
I love your passion and conviction Lydia ... it's so refreshing.
with love,
Jacquelyn
